[Merriell's response to that was about as disrespectful as it was confusing: he laughed, quiet and subdued but laughter all the same, but also lowered his gaze to the floor, which had the same conflicting effect as his concerned question with his cocky posture. Was he ashamed or amused? The two didn't seem like they could go together, but finding the seam was next to impossible.

Really, he wasn't either, at least not about his actions. He was mostly amused that Mr. Sledge was pacing his office like a caged animal, even though it was his space. He had home field advantage along with all the power he wielded and he was in knots. By the time his hand went for his tie, Merriell had no lingering scrap of doubt how this would end no matter what he did from here on forward.]

You ain't gonna train me or work me outta gettin' what I want, Mr. Sledge. Not when it wants the same thing. [He pushed off from the doorframe and moved further into the room, but didn't approach Mr. Sledge directly; he just wanted to see where the circle of uncomfortable energy about him would intensify, making his boss even more antsy.]

You won't, though.

[That was in no way a threat. Merriell still sounded lazily confident, almost bored that they had to go through this whole act. In reality, he felt exactly like he imagined a predator would in the last stages of hunting its prey, almost too alive and aware but still able to channel that excess energy into hyper focus.

Eyes half-shuttered, he watched Mr. Sledge put the desk between them, hide his lap under its surface, and thought: checkmate.]

Don't worry, you ain't done nothin' wrong, whoever's ridin' you from up top can't bend you over for this one. [Carefully chosen language? You'd best believe it. Still not breaking the stare Mr. Sledge had leveled on him, using it to his advantage instead, he circled the desk and walked behind him. Whether Mr. Sledge spun around to follow his process or Merriell had to grab the chair and do it himself, he'd wind up leaning forward with his arms on either side of his boss and his hands resting on the desk, nearly nose to nose with him. His voice dropped to a whisper.]

I won't tell if you won't.

[Oh, he did like Mr. Sledge. So proud, so respectable, but with cravings he just had to give in to with one hand even as he rejected them with the other. He was like a woman on a diet who'd stand in front of a bakery every day, staring in at the pastries but never allowing herself one. As if the torture made him even purer in his abstinence.

He'd drag Merriell all the way up here to have him closer but not come near him: admirable, it its own way, but it couldn't be allowed to stand. Not while Merriell had the same craving, because he indulged his every whim and that was going to include the man seated in front of him.]

With all due respect, sir - [He took hold of Mr. Sledge's tie in one hand and pulled it free from his blazer, smoothing his thumb against the grain of the silky fabric, his hold very slack but still managing to make it plain that he now had physical leverage against the man.] - I'm gettin' to the point. One of us had to.

[Merriell just chuckled again, a small, inscrutable smile touching his lips. It took him about the length of five heartbeats to respond in words, his eyes once again pointed downward all the while, letting Mr. Sledge sweat in the absence of his honeyed voice and probing stare instead of under its influence.

When he looked up again, Mr. Sledge's failure was written all over Merriell's face. Anything that happened until then was just a waiting game.]

Oh, you're in trouble if that's the only argument you got left.

[And then he finally pounced, yanking the tie up and toward him hard so that Mr. Sledge's head jerked forward and their mouths collided. Merriell's lips were soft enough to cushion the blow without their teeth knocking together, though, and he waited until they had before opening his mouth and licking aggressively at Mr. Sledge's lips.]

[The sound that Mr. Sledge made against Merriell's mouth gave him a pleasant shiver, and he was just reaching to cup his free hand around the nape of the other man's neck when he turned away instead of giving in. He had a lot more fight in him than Merriell would've guessed from the look he'd always gotten in his eyes (which he clearly thought he hid well) when Merriell came a bit too close during work hours.

He'd had it from the day they first met on the factory floor. From the second Merriell looked up and caught a skinny young man with neat coppery-brown hair and a slick suit looking back. Instant attraction. Merriell couldn't believe he'd fight with nothing but himself so damn hard.

He gave a little tug on the tie, but just trying to get his attention back this time, not hard enough to shift the position of Mr. Sledge's head.]

You're makin' this harder than it has to be. [His gaze flicked down to one shoulder and then back up, mouth quirking in faint amusement.] And still hangin' on to me like there's a sheer drop under your desk.

[His choice of words didn't sneak past Merriell's notice. Shouldn't be happening. He'd already given in, and Merriell suspected that one more nudge would prove it.]

Says who. [He backed up a couple of steps, pulling Mr. Sledge along where he sat with the help of the rolling chair and his tie, then used the extra space to climb right into his lap with his legs hanging on either side. One arm was slung around his shoulders, hand anchored on his upper back, the other still keeping balance with the grip on his tie.] If we're the only ones who know about it then it's just you.

[And with that he leaned back in, lips just touching Mr. Sledge's, but spoke instead of kissing him:]

Go on and tell me "no."

[The words absolutely sounded like a plea, and they only made Merriell chuckle to himself again. How quickly Mr. Sledge's standards and morals fell away: he'd never sleep with a co-worker, at least not this one, and certainly not if they tried to instigate at work, or maybe under those circumstances, but it wouldn't happen at work, please could it not happen at work.

Merriell Shelton could've been a truly evil man if he'd ever found delight in breaking down anyone but people who were repressing themselves for no reason and missing out on all they never knew they wanted because of that. That would've counted as psychological torture, though, and he wasn't some psychopath trying to destroy minds with his strong persuasive abilities, just a man who could see what others wanted as clearly as his own desires.

When they matched up, he switched into a sort of overdrive, which was what Mr. Sledge got to experience now. Not here, he begged, and Merriell just shifted forward to whisper in his ear instead of against his lips.]

You just find your way to trustin' me on this, sir, and it'll be the best time you ever had. I promise you that.

[Why? Was he really picking apart motives now? Would this man ever just take what he wanted?

Merriell was more than ready to push things to the next level and beyond without touching Mr. Sledge's question, but it also amused him a little, so he sat back to examine the man's face. He'd entertain this for a brief while.]

Why's a real broad question, you gotta be more clear. Why should you trust me? Why'll it be so good? Why'm I doin' any of this?

I know it weren't for favours. [In fact, that was so obvious and so far from the reason for Merriell's actions that he sounded outright condescending when he said so.] You were just gettin' me closer. Didn't even rightly know why y'self 'til now, didja? There weren't nothin' wrong in how you got me here, Mr. Sledge, 'cause you never woulda done a thing without me.

[Even at this distance, Merriell still had hold of his boss's tie, enjoying how Mr. Sledge allowed him to use it as a leash even though he could probably jerk it out of Merriell's hands with a good, quick shift of his upper body. He needed to be shown so, so much about why he did what he did and why that was perfectly fine.

For now, Merriell just pulled him a bit closer again, but he still had the dignity of some personal space, as much as he'd ever get while someone was sitting on his lap.]

I'm doin' this 'cause I want you just as bad as you want me. Only difference is I ain't so wrapped up in denial I can barely see it, and I wanna get you unwrapped, too.

You still ain't really stoppin' me, though. [Merriell's eyes glittered with mischief. He was working entirely on the premise that those half-denials meant something actually interested Mr. Sledge, but on a level he couldn't admit to himself, never mind out loud. Even though he was holding out on this, it still wasn't to the point of an explicit "no," which Merriell had told him would end everything.]

You wanna try it too. Bein' good as you are, I bet there's part of you that wants to be so bad I couldn't even imagine. Why not start here.

[If Mr. Sledge thought the distance between them meant complete safety, he was very wrong, and the hard downward roll of Merriell's hips that followed his words made that very clear.]

[There it was. Not even the most token of objections but a shocked exclamation. Merriell shivered when he swore, just in case Mr. Sledge had any lingering doubt in his mind that he really enjoyed the concept of this slow corruption, then pulled his boss in for a kiss more slowly than the first time. He wanted Mr. Sledge to feel every second of his capitulation now that there was no chance of him fighting back.

Even without the violence of the first kiss, Merriell still kissed him with a fierce desire which seemed to confirm his statement that he wanted it just as badly. If this were some kind of long con against Mr. Sledge that Merriell was just setting into motion, he'd have to be the world's greatest actor to suck on his tongue and bite at his lips like he couldn't help himself if he tried.]

[It was very obvious that Mr. Sledge was out of his depth, whether from the unrelenting nature of Merriell's kisses or just because he was still having trouble shaking off his worries. However, it was also very obvious that he was loving every single moment; if possible, Merriell thought that he might have wanted it even more than he showed on the outside, what with the way he kept trembling.

Merriell's smile when Mr. Sledge mentioned locking the door was small and subtle, but it was more than enough to cause distinct worry in anyone who saw it, and for good reason.]

I ain't just lettin' you walk away now that I finally got you. [Still... this one allowance was only fair when Mr. Sledge had capitulated on so much, and not giving him this could destroy the whole thing if, heaven forbid, someone did interrupt.

So he climbed off his boss's lap, turned the chair around to face the door, but kept his grip on the tie so that the back loop encircled Mr. Sledge's throat and he kept the end like a leash. That was how he'd keep him from getting away.]

[Thank you?

Merriell's face lit up like a child's on Christmas morning. He actually looked giddy. Because not only was this working, but Mr. Sledge was taking to it like a fish to water. The thought reminded him of something he should correct before they went too much farther, but he'd answer the question first.]

You gotta learn to be more specific. I'm doin' an awful lot here, ain't I? [He didn't laugh so much as giggle, still strangely ecstatic, and with their new set up he decided to press himself against Mr. Sledge's back instead of moving in front of him again; he pulled the tie taut enough to keep him in place with just a hint of discomfort, then leaned forward until their cheeks were pressed together.] I always take charge. If that answers your question.

What's your first name, Mr. Sledge? [He tacked that on casually, but if his boss really did have a good understanding of what was going on here, he'd probably know why. And be smart enough to answer.]
