[The last text gained an affectionate and amused expression out of Eugene even though no one was there to see it in the small office area they had in their home. He'd been writing, or well trying to write more like it when the texting had started and quickly he'd ended up not getting much done at all.

The non answer was enough of an answer that Sledge after tucking away what he'd been working on out of sight went straight to the living room, a pleased smile still on his face.]

So, you never did answer me about the cat. I can get one, right? [He questioned, and sat as close to Merriell as he could without sitting on his lap, pressing his lips to his. He knew Merriell had probably about had his quote for the year on all the sap between the two of them though it'd been intermingled with such a heaviness that a part of Eugene still felt a dark weight hanging onto his shoulders.]

[Instead of answering right away, Merriell didn't let Eugene break that kiss until he was finished, cupping one hand around the line of his jaw and trying to speak in the language he knew so, so much better than soft, affectionate words. Even just his kisses and touches could speak volumes when he wanted, and this wasn't a gesture of blind desire or even pointed distraction as some could be: it was the best way for him to reiterate in person that he loved Eugene, at least until he could find his way around the words.

When he pulled back, his eyes were so unusually soft that he looked almost vulnerable, but his mouth was tilted in a wry grin that helped to offset the effect.]

[Eugene leaned into Merriell as they kissed, and there was often a way about what he did that made Eugene feel like he could understand him more than words could ever express. That's probably how he'd known long before the text that Merriell loved him.

Eugene had never been so good at expressing himself physically, even with Merriell he knew he didn't have the same knack for that kind of communication but god if he didn't love being the recipient of it. It made the sentiment of I love you so multi dimensional to him.]

Mmm... [Eugene sighed when Merriell pulled back, his eyes opening half way, lips tingling in the aftermath of the other's kiss. He reached up, touching his cheek gently. The grin didn't fool him in the least but he wouldn't press Merriell anymore than he'd been already that day.]

Cats live longer. [He murmured. He did love dogs but there was a part of him that didn't know if he was even over the loss of his old one yet.] They purr and they bathe themselves.
